CO2 Reduction strategy
Energy and CO2 Reduction Policy
Reducing CO2 emissions is essential for controlling climate change, ensuring a livable environment, and safeguarding a sustainable habitat. Eekels endorses an ambitious sustainability policy and aims to contribute to the reduction of its CO2 emissions with a concrete in-house program. To this end, an annual plan is formulated that, upon implementation, will achieve significant CO2 emission reductions.
The CO2 Reduction Plan forms an integral part of Eekels’ Energy Management System (EMS) and Carbon Footprint reporting. The objectives affect all scopes and are evaluated periodically, so that adjustments can be made during implementation. When adjustments are made, the consequences for the management system are assessed and recorded.
Eekels has taken the year 2009 as the reference year and starting point for its CO2 emission policy, against which reduction progress is measured. For accurate insights, Eekels has carried out a CO2 emission inventory in accordance with the CO2 Performance Ladder. At the same time, an energy scan was conducted to map energy consumption sources.
Eekels’ overall goal is to reduce the CO2 footprint of its own activities by 10% per year, measured in kilograms of CO2 per project hour. Within scope 3, reduction targets are defined in individual reduction pathways per segment. In this way, we continuously make our processes cleaner—for each other and for the world.
In addition to several small initiatives, Eekels has so far succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions in the following areas:
- Reduction in the number of kilometers driven per project hour and reduction in fuel consumption;
- Cleaner lease and company vehicle fleet;
- Reduction in gas consumption for building heating;
- Use of wind energy;
- Reduction in electricity consumption.
