Eekels I TBI makes major contribution to successful trial of the “Thun Empower"

The “Thun Empower”, hull number FS452, was successfully transferred to the shipowner by Shipyard Ferus Smit Leer following a successful sea trial from the Eemshaven. Eekels designed and supplied the complete electrical installation for this latest ship from the series of four new oil/chemical tankers to be built for Swedish shipowner Erik Thun AB.

The first tankers for shipowner Erik Thun AB were built by Ferus Smit almost 20 years ago and we provided the electrical installation. With LNG propulsion and the “slow steaming” concept, the tanker has been fully updated according to current requirements in the area of efficiency and ecological footprint. The “Thun Empower” forms part of the first four new tankers which will be replacing the tankers delivered 20 years ago.

The installations that make the “slow steaming” concept possible have an on-board power supply of both 400V 50Hz and 440V 60Hz as a result.

Delivery includes:

  • 400/440V main and emergency switchboard
  • Marpower alarm system
  • 450kW bow thruster engine fitted with an Eekels frequency drive
  • Axle generator and the control desks for the bridge and engine room.

In addition to cabling and installation work for its own and third-party installations, Eekels also provided the delivery and installation of the fire alarm and lighting systems, as well as items such as the stove and searchlights.
