FROM MARINE TO ENGINEER
In 2014 I decided to leave the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and continue my career outside the armed forces. With a mid-level Electro-technical Engineering qualification, I started looking for a company that would enable me, while working for them, to follow the higher vocational part-time education Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering). I soon found Eekels to be my enthusiastic new employer. Over the past four years, I have studied in the evenings and at weekends both at home and at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. Due to the combination of this with a challenging job as Draughtsman/Engineer in the Business Unit Marine & Offshore, this was a very hectic period. Especially the combination of my development in the workplace, the theoretical depth offered by the study and the stimulation & support offered by Eekels I have experienced as very positive. The subject of my graduation research was the design of a main switchboard that meets the ‘new’ market demand. The design focuses on smart techniques to achieve remote monitoring & control of the electrical engineering process. With this Eekels offers its customers the opportunity to better analyze the process and where possible organize it more efficiently. After giving a presentation to my colleagues and lecturers, I have recently graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. I look forward to further applying what I have learned in my work situation: a win-win situation for both Eekels and myself.
