Eekels | TBI makes an important contribution to the successful trial run of “Arklow Artist”

On Tuesday 22 June 2021, after a successful sea trial from the Eemshaven, shipyard Ferus Smit Westerbroek transferred the ‘Arklow Artist’, build number FS442, to the shipowner.

Eekels designed and supplied the complete electrical installation for the latest ship from the series of six new 8600 dwt to be built for the Irish shipowner Arklow. The present Arklow ‘A’ series is a further development from the series of six Arklow ‘B’ vessels delivered by Ferus Smit and fitted out by us in 2014-15. The Arklow Artist is a multi-purpose general cargo ship which will mainly be used to transport bulk goods in European waters. With the ‘A’ series, the reduced main engine power combined with a ducted propeller ensures substantial fuel savings.

The delivery includes the engineering, installation and commissioning of:

  • 400V main and emergency switchboard
  • Marpower Automation System (MAS)
  • Marpower frequency drive for the 380kW bow thruster
  • 390kW axle generator
  • Navigation, wing and GMDS control desks for the bridge

In addition to the complete cabling and installation work for its own and third-party installations, Eekels also provided the fire alarm and lighting systems, as well as items such as the stove and searchlights.
