Veteran
Eekels was commissioned by Damen to carry out the complete electrical installation of two RoPax ferries, the Veteran and Legionnaire. On 23 October, the Veteran was ceremoniously handed over to the government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL) in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. The Veteran is the first of two ice-class RoPax ferries, which will be the ‘lifeline replacements’ of the current 30-year-old ferries. The Veteran will provide passenger and vehicle services between Fogo Island and Change Island in Newfoundland, Canada.
Its sister ship the Legionnaire is currently commissioned in Galatz, Romania and ready to be handed over to its owners. The Legionnaire will provide ferry services between Bell Island and Portugal Cove. Eekels has the final responsibility for the entire electrical installation on both vessels, in collaboration with our Canadian supplier. The electrical installation on board was done by Eekels Romania. The vessels are 81.50 metres long and 17.20 metres wide, and have a capacity of 200 passengers and 64 cars. The propulsion system consists of 2 azimuth thrusters. The engine room features 3 main engines and 1 emergency generator. The vessels are also equipped with a bow thruster.
